"Simmons Ode" no. 2 & 3

Here's no. 2 and 3 from "The Drifer"series. I found these two beautiful pieces of wood in the trash. They cleaned up nicely and the wood was wonderful to carve. This is my tribute to the great Bob Simmons.

The Drifter Series no. 1

"Drifter" oil and etching on wood. ( approx 4ft by 2.5ft).
This is the first painting for my new series titled " The Drifter".
All the wood is recycled or found.

Thoreau

Came upon this quotation today:

"It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look. To affect the quality of the day- that is the highest of the arts."

Oil and inking in progress

So, I am starting a new series of oil larger paintings and this is the start of the first.
I forgot how wonderful oils are!
I am also carving and inking parts of it too.

This inking is a homage to my old 1962 VW beetle named 'Doodles'.

Ted looks like one tired studio corgi!!!
